Nonprofit Minding Our Business Will Celebrate the Retirement of Co-Founder Dr. Sigfredo Hernandez on December 1, 2016

Lawrenceville, NJ – October 24, 2016 – Minding Our Business, Inc. (MOB), a nonprofit organization that has been recognized as one of the premier youth entrepreneurship programs in the nation, announced that co-founder Dr. Sigfredo Hernandez will retire on December 31, 2016 after twenty years. The Board of Trustees invites the community to celebrate on December 1, 2016 from 5:30-9:00 pm at the Trenton Country Club.

Under Dr. Hernandez’s leadership, MOB began in 1997, as a community outreach program of Rider University’s College of Business Administration. MOB has coached and mentored more than 3,000 students on creating and running their own businesses. MOB offers an afterschool Service Learning Program and a Summer Program. Many of the program alumni continue to run successful businesses ventures developed during the programs.

Dr. Hernandez also helped advance the development of 2,000 Trenton youth and 550 Rider students. He played a lead role in raising more than a $1million for MOB.  Dr. Hernandez conducted research on the effectiveness of MOB programs and their short-term and long-term impact on low-income middle-school students and Rider University students and obtained national recognition for the MOB Summer Program.

“Dr. Sigfredo Hernandez has touched the lives of so many and has brought national recognition to this organization.  In 2008 and 2009, the program was recognized by the National Center for Summer Learning at John Hopkins University as one of the top summer programs in the country in terms of summer learning excellence.  In 2009, the MOB Summer Program became the National Winner of the Best of Best Practices Award in Entrepreneurship Education at the Small Business Institute National Conference.” Stated Kevin Wortham, Executive Director of MOB.  Wortham continues to say, “We will miss Dr. Hernandez but thank him for his years of service and dedication.  We also look forward to celebrating his accomplishments on December 1.”
